COMMUNITY MINISTRIES:
(back)
Our church is involved in area ministries such as KIDS HOPE USA, Mel Trotter Ministries, North West Food Pantry and G.R.A.C.E.. We provide support to Bethany Christian Services and Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services. We are also committed to helping keep clean a section of Walker Avenue through the Adopt-a-Road program.
On the second Tuesday of each month during 2011, Faith United will have a FEEDING AMERICA food truck at our church. Individuals and families in our community who are in need of additional food can stop by to pick up items such as fruit, vegetables, yogurt, milk, and juice. There is no charge and everything is first come first served. The food distribution begins at 5:00 pm, and we ask that recipients line up and remain in the parking lot until the distribution begins. That helps our volunteers get everything in place and ready for you!

What is KIDS HOPE USA?
KIDS HOPE USA churches give hope to children in public elementary schools through a relationship with a caring church member.
WHO IS IN CHARGE?
Our trained Kids Hope program director is Karen Stevens. She provides training, supervision and affirmation for the volunteers.
WHO CAN BE A KIDS HOPE MENTOR?
Any person at Faith who loves the Lord, has a heart for children, is over 16 years old, and can read is eligible to participate in the program.
WHO ARE THESE CHILDREN?
Alpine Elementary School will refer students who need help with reading and emotional support. Although we cannot provide mentors for every child, we can reach many children whose lives can be impacted through the involvement of a caring volunteer.
HOW MUCH TIME WOULD I NEED TO COMMIT?
When it comes to your contact with a child, a few minutes will go a long way. All we ask is that you give one hour per week for an entire school year to your assigned child. Children who lack structure in their lives need to count on those special moments with you once each week. There will also be several events throughout the year designed to help you build a bridge with your student and his or her family.
WHEN AND WHERE WILL I DO MY MENTORING?
All mentoring sessions will take place at Alpine Elementary- during a time and day that works best for the mentor and student. The school hours of 8:35am-3:35pm are ideal, but exceptions can be made.
HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?
Contact Karen Stevens by phone or email for more information.
The KHUSA mission is simple. It’s all about ONE. Kids Hope USA builds caring realtionships…one child, one hour, one church, one school.
ONE CHILD…an at-risk elementary school child, who needs a consistent relationship with a caring adult.
ONE HOUR…60 critical minutes each week that transform the lives of three people: a child, his/her church mentor and their behind-the-scenes prayer partner.
ONE CHURCH… that uses the relational platform of Kids Hope USA to engage its members in the lives of children and their families in the neighborhood.
ONE SCHOOL…Alpine Elementary School provides an environment.
H: Helping to meet the emotional, social and academic needs of at-risk children by giving them a one-to-one relationship with a mentor from our church
O: Owned by our church. This is our ministry to children and families in our neighborhood
P: Prayer is the foundation for our work. A behind the scenes prayer partner from our church prays for each adult-child relationship.
E: Elementary school children are our focus. They need mentoring most because they are at that critical time when values are formed, self-esteem is developed and critical academic skills must be acquired.
Can you give hope to a child?
